Summer at Karoo View 2012

Dear Family and Friends

Hope that you are all having a great start to 2012 and may it be a fun filled and rewarding year for you all.

A BIG BIG PRINCE ALBERT & KAROO VIEW THANK YOU to each and every one of you who took time as well as spending some pennies To Vote for Prince Albert in a bid to win Kwela’s Dorp van die Jaar competition.

As some of you know Richard and I have been very busy and have just completed our 2nd December season where we have been full almost every night since the 6th December up until the end of January 2012, which has just been absolutely amazing and even better the stress the 2nd time around was nowhere near the 1st time even though the turnover was more than double. We even managed to have a few dinner parties and celebrated Richard’s birthday on the 22nd December for a change – so things are finally starting to ‘look up’ as we get our systems in place and get our routines sorted. We are also so very fortunate in that the 2 guys we have working with us are fantastic as we just could not manage without them. Needless to say though, my work still continues to grow, as I am still in ‘catch-up’ mode from an admin side and getting the books sorted, but have set a deadline for this now, which I cannot go back on, so should start to see the light at the end of the tunnel on this front in the next month or so and then also need to work on the cash flow, as those of you with your own businesses will know that this is always a hindrance in the beginning stages of a business, but working on this now with sourcing direct from suppliers as we provide so many extra’s and cleaning / washing – well that goes without saying.

Each piece of furniture and décor item has its own interesting little story to tell as a lot of what we furnished the house with were family airlooms . . . . or décor sourced here in the Karoo

Showing some of the décor arrangements around our home all with stories of interest

Richard has also been busy Chairing the Chamber of Business and attending municipal ward committee meetings / forums etc so at least we get to know what is going on, which is very useful and so nice in a small community to be involved. In between he is also working very hard on finishing off the house and building cupboards and special features, so he is kept busy. Oh I mustn’t forget that his new Name is Basil – as in Faulty Towers – as he does all the guest check-ins etc as I don’t like dealing with the collecting of monies when guests arrive, and sometimes this can get chaotic when all 4 sets of people arrive at once, but he really enjoys it as he gets to talk and chat and meet all sorts of people.

I know that some of you kept asking about the house so I have put together an Illustrated News on the house showing the various stages of progress and where we are now at – hope you enjoy.

August 2010 started moving into house, still filled with rubble etc and builders. There was not 1 cupboard, fixture or fitting in place as Richard had to build these himself as we unpacked, whilst in the back ground our business was up and running and therefore could only do the house in-between guests coming and going in the cottages.

We found this beautiful old light fitting in an antique shop before we had even built – really need to find some more! Also showing the double volume ceilings made out of Natural Reeds, which have been used throughout the house and stoeps

Until the next update

Take care and sending love to you all
