Dreams do come true

February 2012

Richard and I would like to thank you, our Suppliers and Friends who have assisted and supported us over the last 2 years in creating our dream, and thought that you may be interested to see what you can do if "You follow your rainbow of dreams"!

Ian and Nicole chose to have a private wedding ceremony in 1 of our suites, in front of the log fire on a chilly day in June 2011 – with Richard and Ricardo as witness, which was really special.

Grey water from Cottage No 1 feeds back into the natural – you will notice the new growth and how this has been re-juvenated after the completion of the building – compared to the above pics.

September 2009 – start of Scented Garden using Grey Water from our Pondokkie. October 2010 showing how prolific the growth is – amazing how the bees are attracted – I have to keep cutting everything back on a continual basis.

Showing vegetables which we grow organically in our tunnel and where our guests pick their own fresh greens with our compliments. For convenience to our guests we also put braai baskets together and bake bread, make our own muesli and rusks and due to the abundance we also make our own jams and marmalades which we have available in our suites.

Start of the foundations of cottages in July 2009

Interior’s of our suites: Kanon Suite, Striata Suite and Ferox Suite. Our first "paying guests" were in June 2010 – 1 year after we dug the first foundations

En-suite bathrooms, with grab rails, wall heaters, trigger showers and more Fully equipped and full sized kitchens, with gas hobs, recycle bins and loads of extras to create ‘home from home’ convenience

Some of the finishing décor touches and attention to detail, for which our guests are so complimentary

All décor, design, research and putting together was done by ourselves

Each Suite has been named after the Aloe that is growing most prolifically in the area of ‘that suite’ Kanon Suite No 1: E.G. these aloes are growing naturally on the entire koppie but the within the grey water area next to the cottage they are en-mass.

Only planted indigeounous plants and chosen plants for the beds adjacent to the buildings that blend in for the natural plants that are already growing in that area.

This shows we managed to prevent the builders from trashing the natural gardens in front of the 2nd cottage, and all that we have done is make pathways for our guests to walk through and down to the boma.

June 2010

January 2011

Our cottages were positioned on the land with the Views as paramont, but we were to find out later that we get excessive winds and therefore with this in mind we built the natural stone boma to provide shelter as well as a ‘cuddle puddle’ for our guests to enjoy. Lovely for viewing the night skies and for Local story telling around the fire

So as also not to disturb the night sky we have provided lanterns on all the stoeps as well as in the boma

As we had bought Chimineye’s for each of the 4 stoeps so that our guests could braai in private, but not only was the wind going to be a problem, but the natural reed ceilings of the stoeps were a fire hazard, so we had to find another use for these as they were quite expensive and a waste not be used. After listening to some guests requests for private braai area’s we have now established 3 of these using the Chimineye’s – where all their braai equipment, fire wood / blitz etc is provided.

We have used Chain instead of drain pipes, which fills up Wine barrels when we get our rain, which we then use to water when required. Citronella oil is put into the water for the mossies.

All the kitchens are equipped with various recycling bins where we have used galvanised buckets; For Bottles, Plastic, Tins and Garden Refuse as we now make all our own compost from all vegetable matter.

Some of Karoo View’s Sunrises over the Swartberg, which makes our position so very special due to our elevation as well as proximity to the village

Karoo View Cottages – Name says it all – In the middle of nowhere, yet close to everywhere!

Hope that you have enjoyed reading and seeing what you helped us to achieve over the last 2 years.

Please feel free to share with your friends and families and hope that 1 day you may visit us. However if anyone would like to be removed off our mailing list please pop me a short mail and I will do so.
